Project Cluster Flocks

PCF Invite for Individuals

PCF INvite for Organizations

a cluster Flock...

...is the technical name for what most people call a murmuration. A literary term given to a flock of birds performing artful arial acrobatics for the murmuring sound they produce. The Project Cluster Flocks (PCF) Nexus team took the name because we are inspired by the way birds and many other natural gatherings of individual entities self-organize. The birds follow three rules in relationship with the seven birds closest to them:
1. Don't bump into each other
2. Stay in alignment
3. Stick with the group

We are borrowing this ancient wisdom and the intelligent guidance all around us to transform:
(1-3) systems and structures,
(4-6) beliefs and paradigms, and
(7-9) individuals and groups.

We use the Process Enneagram as a framework and a guide.

We transform by "intentionalizing" our connecting energy with our
OPEN people (Often - Positive - Enduring - Near). We can know our IDENTITY, practice our PURPOSE, and get our NEEDS (IPN) met in a small group (Cluster Flock). Cluster Flocks are able to generate positive shifts in their larger network (flock).

1. Our intention

PROBLEM
Individual, organizational, and community disconnection, division, and hyper-independence. Dis-integrated wholeness makes us mentally, emotionally, behaviorally, and physically sick.

SOLUTION
A framework for flourishing. A distributed, self-organizing network of small groups (Cluster Flocks) that are cultivating structural belonging through story sharing. These groups are generative, interdependent, self-supporting, and self-replicating.

2. ORGANIZING the PARTS

A community of like-minded partners began many years ago to collaborate. Our work is to imagine and transform the structures and systems we live in so that they are life-giving and generative for everyone and everything.
There are a lot of parts that need organizing. Including:
  • Complexity
  • Leadership
  • Economics
  • Communication
  • Policies
  • Social Structures
  • Trauma

3. Modeling

The Project Cluster Flocks Nexus (PCFN) came together to formalize and coordinate our lifelong efforts so we can spread the health-producing effects of belonging far and wide. To that end, we gather regularly to align ourselves with belonging, heal and grow ourselves and our purposes. As we care for each other's needs, the identity and purpose of our own flock of 10 is emerging and we can intelligently coordinate our evolving self-organizing skills. We hope to stop bumping into each other, stay in alignment, and become a stable group.
Belonging is our work.

4. Values

  • Everyone's identity, purpose, and needs (IPN) belong.
  • Our limitations deserve compensation.
  • Growth emerges from tension.
  • Our story is disruptive.
  • The speed of change is slow.
  • The unit of social change is the small group.
  • This is fun!

5. evaluation

When birds are cluster flocking, they are continually adapting to a shifting environment. We are the same. Every person participating in PCF is also an evaluator. We are all responsible for ongoing adaptation. Otherwise, we become a rigid bureaucracy, stuck in ruts and doing things that are not generative.
Our evaluation is both quantitative and qualitative—surveys and stories. This gives credibility to our decisions and actions.

6. guidance

Curtis and Connect Ed offers a range of resources along with the PCF Nexus that supports those who choose to lead their own Cluster Flocks.
  • One on one consultations
  • Monthly zoom calls
  • Our Discourse forum
  • Annual retreats

7. Cluster Flocks

Supported Guides and their Cluster Flocks enter into a nine-part life cycle similar to the life cycle of the PCF as a whole. Spark-initial reaction-tension-reconciliation-stabilizing-testing-action-maturation-regeneration. They support each other with their collective wisdom through their relational connections.

8. Impact

Small groups are the unit of social change. As identities, purposes, and needs emerge and coordinate, the IPN of a group follows. This optimizes and activates the generative capacity of the group in their relationships, organizations, and communities. The belonging work they can do transforms the stories they are in and continues to transform them in the process.

9. regeneration

Project Cluster Flocks is a living thing. It has a life cycle. It must be transformed itself because it is dynamic and adaptive in a complex system of many unpredictable, interdependent parts. We do not know what the regenerative phase will look like but our intention is that it will expand—spreading belonging and a transformative story through all of our connected lives and systems.
